Manchester United have not contacted RB Leipzig head of recruitment and development Paul Mitchell, the Englishman has confirmed.
Mitchell, who was born and raised in Manchester, has admitted that the links between him and the Reds are flattering, though.
Reports have indicated that Man United may be looking to appoint a technical director to help both executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and manager Jose Mourinho in the transfer market.
Mitchell has been one of a number of names linked with what would be a new position at Old Trafford. The 37-year-old has revealed that there has been no contact between him and Woodward.
“There hasn’t been any contact with United at this moment,” Mitchell said, speaking in Germany where he works. “For me, it’s always about focusing on the job in hand.”
“I’m more than aware I work for a great organisation, but then like always you never know in football what can happen in the future.”
Some rumours have suggested that United won’t look for a technical director until manager Mourinho leaves. The Portuguese may not be too happy with working under another boss.
Mitchell, though, seemed to hint he would appreciate the role.
“Manchester United are recognised for being one of the biggest clubs in the world,” Mitchell admitted.
“So any link with a club of that size, history and status is very flattering and I am a Manchester boy.”
Whether United will make an approach to Mitchell or other big names in European recruitment like Fabio Paratici of Juventus, Monchi of AS Roma or Andrea Berta of Atletico Madrid will remain to be seen.
The club certainly needs an improvement in their transfer strategy.
