Ross Barkley has earned himself a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England side to play Spain and Croatia in the UEFA Nations League.
The midfielder, who has struggled with injuries ever since joining Chelsea, had been left out of the World Cup squad that made it to the semi-finals in Russia.
However, with the midfielder making his return to first team action this season, the former Everton man has earned a return call-up to the England side.
Barkley had spoken previously this week about how his goal was to return to the England side after the disappointment of missing out during the Summer.
Speaking after Chelsea’s win in the Carabao cup over Liverpool, Barkley said via BT Sport:
I was injured and then I wasn’t in the squad, but you have just got to react in the right way and I feel like I have.
I’m just going to let my football do the talking and hopefully I’ll be back in the squad soon.
England face off against Spain and Croatia, both away from home, later this month.
