Argentinian La Liga midfielder reveals Man United tried to sign him

Argentinian former-midfielder Aldo Duscher has revealed that Manchester United tried to sign him back in 2005.

Legendary captain Roy Keane had just departed the club after giving a hugely controversial interview to MUTV and Duscher has explained that Man United were interested in bringing him to club to help fill the hole left by Keane.

Duscher, at the time, was playing for Deportivo La Coruña and had been involved in his own controversy with United three years earlier when he unintentionally injured David Beckham just a couple of months before the 2002 World Cup.

“Manchester United wanted to sign me up from La Coruña when Roy Keane retired in 2005,” Duscher told Portuguese newspaper Record, as per Sport Witness.

However, Duscher explained that he couldn’t avoid a drawn-out transfer saga as he needed to play regular first team football to earn a place in the Argentina 2006 World Cup squad.

“But it was difficult to negotiate with the president of La Coruña and I could not have problems because it was World Cup season and I had to play.”

He’s now looking to become a football manager after retiring. Having played all across Europe and South America, Duscher found it peculiar that he could be a figure of hatred in England after injuring Beckham, but was soon wanted by Beckham’s own club.

“But it’s strange that a whole country, or a city, does not like you, and then, after a short time, the same club want to sign you,” Duscher continued. “I haven’t had another chance. It was then or never.”

United ended up signing Michael Carrick in 2006 as Roy Keane’s long-term successor. He was never the same player as Keane, but filled his boots magnificently with a different style. Now he’s a coach under Jose Mourinho.
