As many as 10 Manchester United players could leave the club if Jose Mourinho remains as manager at the end of the 2018/19 season.
The Portuguese coach has overseen one of the club’s worst ever starts to a Premier League season. Of Man United’s opening seven games in the league, they lost three of them.
Saturday evening saw a fightback from Mourinho and his players as United came from two goals behind to beat Newcastle United 3-2 at Old Trafford.
However, many players remain alienated by Mourinho and unhappy with his management at United. The 55-year-old has had very public fights with stars such as Paul Pogba, but there are others who remain frustrated by Mourinho.
The Mail reports that United now risk losing the best players in their squad unless Mourinho is sacked by the end of the season.
Star midfielder Pogba is, of course, one of the biggest concerns for United. FC Barcelona appear interested and Paris Saint-Germain could be, too.
However, David de Gea holding out in contract talks will be even more of a concern. The Mail report of “growing concerns” about the time it’s taking for the Spaniard to commit his future.
The other players who will leave if Mourinho stays include in-form Luke Shaw and the exciting Anthony Martial as well as Eric Bailly, Juan Mata, Antonio Valencia, Ander Herrera, Ashley Young and Phil Jones.
Some United fans would welcome some of the latter names leaving the club. But the United boar and fans will be hugely concerned by suggestions that Pogba and De Gea could leave.
The pair are undoubtedly United’s best players while Shaw and Martial are two of the club’s most exciting young players.
If reports are true, the United board have a big decision to make that will be telling in terms of how much player power rules at Old Trafford.
