Young Manchester United talent Tahith Chong has revealed he looks to Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford as role models at the club.
Chong was part of Jose Mourinho’s pre-season tour squad in the USA and has frequently trained with the first team on other occasions.
Therefore, he’s been in company with Martial and Rashford for plenty of time over the last season, learning from Man United’s two exciting young attackers.
Chong is one of the most exciting players in United’s under-23s team at the moment, and was given a number of chances in the USA in friendlies by Mourinho.
“Like any young player, my goal is to get into the first team. It’s hard work to get there and that’s what I have to do,” Chong told Maisfutebol.
“At 18, being able to be a part of such a tour was an incredible experience. I had the chance to play with the first team and had players around me trying to help me. My focus was just on learning from them.
“I’m living the dream. All over the world there are kids who have the ambition to play for United and being there makes me thankful and keen to work as hard as possible.
“I’m training with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial and when I train with them, I try to absorb as much as I can because they are world-class players. The best I can do is try to learn from them.”
Chong has done fantastically well to return from a serious knee injury that left him requiring surgery.
Now, he’s gaining vital experience in the under-23s and bulking out. Mourinho insisted that he was pleased with Chong’s performances on the pre-season tour, but said he needed him to grow physically before his real first team chance could come.
