Pundit John Barnes has accused Marcus Rashford of being inconsistent for Manchester United, claiming he understands why Jose Mourinho hasn’t given into fan pressure.
Most of the club’s supporters agree with the Portuguese manager’s statements on how the youngster features plenty but they still want to see him handed more starts.
Rashford and Anthony Martial have often been battling it out for the left-wing spot but Alexis Sanchez’s arrival to Old Trafford has made things even trickier.
The Englishman’s dismissal in the clash against Burnley also hurt his chances for his club though it’s unlikely Mourinho will turn on him.
Barnes believes more must come from Marcus before he’s given consistent runs in the starting XI and it’s like the manager thinks so too.
According to the Express, John said to BeIn Sports: “Mourinho likes consistency. And you can still see Rashford isn’t consistent week in, week out.
“Coming on and playing well for the full 90 minutes, he’s still not at it. I understand why Mourinho does what he does.
“But if there’s an agenda against Mourinho, then that’s what they use to beat with him.”
There may be some truth to Barnes’ words but it must be said that it’s tough for any player to enjoy any kind of form when not given starts consistently.
It’s even more difficult for a youngster which is why most United fans don’t put too much blame on Rashford or Martial for their inability to hold down a spot in the starting XI.
It’s expected though that eventually the pair will take advantage of their substitute appearances and their experiences would help them become key players for the club.
