Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright believes Marcus Rashford should consider leaving Manchester United if he continues to miss out on the starting XI.
The youngster has only made one start this season – against Leicester City on the opening day – and was recently sent off 11 minutes after coming off the bench against Burnley.
Many questioned Rashford’s future at Old Trafford after his starting opportunities were significantly reduced during the second half of the 2017/18 campaign, although Mourinho resonded by claiming such a prospect was ridiculous, and out of the question.
But Wright has once again gone on the offensive, calling on Rashford to consider playing elsewhere if he remains on the bench.
“Rashford’s got massive, massive, decisions to make in the next year, 18 months for me,” he said.
“He’s either got to leave Manchester United and play, and play in a position where he’s going to start to be that player we all thought he was going to be when he burst onto the scene, scoring goals left, right and centre every competition he has played in or he’s going to have to stay there, whether it’s Mourinho or whoever it is, and maybe playing on the left, maybe playing on the right, maybe playing up front.”
In Mourinho’s first season at Old Trafford, Rashford made 53 appearances – more than any other player.
In Mourinho’s second season the youngster played 52 times. Only seven players received more starts than him throughout the entire campaign.
And he continues to be part of the main fold for Mourinho, coming on against Brighton and Burnley. He is a player the manager, the supporters and indeed the board values highly. Ed Woodward classes him as an “untouchable” in that he would never consider selling him during his time at the club.
Make no mistake: Rashford is going absolutely nowhere.
