Martin Keown has revealed how Arsenal could’ve signed Manchester United star Luke Shaw, claiming he told his former side to complete the transfer.
The youngster is having a successful season so far which has earned him a call-up to the England squad for the upcoming fixtures.
Shaw’s good form has seen him earn the praise of Jose Mourinho for the first time in quite a while.
Keown though has stated he knew the former Southampton man immediately, even urging Arsenal to make a move happen.
Thankfully for United, Luke didn’t end up with the Gunners and instead Louis van Gaal successfully snatched him up a few seasons ago.
According to the Daily Star, Martin said to the Daily Mail: “I first watched him as a 16-year-old playing on a training pitch for Southampton against Reading.
“In the first 10 seconds, he whipped a ball across the box with such power and precision that I just thought, ‘Wow’.
“I was standing next to an Arsenal scout and I immediately said, ‘You’ve got to sign him’. Rarely had I seen a 16-year-old play with such certainty.
“In recent years he lost that from his game but it is coming back. This summer Jose Mourinho has given him his support and as a result Shaw has flourished.”
However, fans have gotten carried away with Shaw’s performances as it has only been three games into the season.
As good as he has been, he will need to keep his form up so Ashley Young can’t break back into the team.
There’s no way the veteran will just roll over and give his position up to Luke so the defender will have to be prepared for a fight.
Young is also one of Mourinho’s most trusted players so the moment the 23 year old slips, it could prove costly.
