Jose Mourinho has hailed Manchester United’s performance against Burnley in a 2-0 victory that sees them climb into the top half of the Premier League table.
The Portuguese picked up Marouane Fellaini for praise in particular.
It was a vital win for Man United after last Monday‘s shambles of a 3-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.
Romelu Lukaku scored twice in the first half to give United the comfortable victory. It could have been a far more emphatic win for Mourinho’s side, but midfielder Paul Pogba missed a penalty in the second half and Lukaku himself missed a couple of big chances to extend the Reds’ advantage.
Mourinho, though, was very pleased with his players as they finally responded to an awful start of the season.
“It was a very very good performance with a result that is very short for our dominancy and the way we played,” Mourinho said.
“We played really really well as a team. We had fantastic individual performances on top of that.
“Lots of good performances, but I would say Fellaini was fundamental with the team, together with Smalling and Lindelof they made a fantastic group of players. Luke Shaw also had a very good performance.”
Mourinho was correct with his assessment of United performance. Midfielder Marouane Fellaini was excellent in midfield, though his contribution wasn’t as obvious as that of someone like striker Lukaku or forward Alexis Sanchez.
Though Fellaini has his bad performances, the Belgian was asked to do a specific role and carried out his duties perfectly for Mourinho, evidencing why the Man United manager trusts him so much.
Luke Shaw was also excellent in defence once more, as his brilliant start to the season continues at left back.
The young Englishman adds a completely different dynamic to United’s attack on the left wing, and allows Sanchez and Lukaku to play better in turn.
