David de Gea once again demonstrated why he is the best keeper in the world during the dying seconds of Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Watford at Vicarage Road.
The Spaniard was not tested often throughout the game, making one flying save in the first half and a few routine stops. He could do nothing about Andre Gray’s goal after half time.
Defender Christian Kabasele angled a header towards the bottom corner in injury time and, with the crowd waiting for the net to bulge, the Spaniard clawed the ball to safety, thereby ensuring United claimed three points.
Speaking on BT Sport after the game, Ferdinand was nothing short of enraptured by De Gea’s injury time brilliance.
Ferdinand: “David de Gea look at this save here, everything about him, i love him. He puts points on the board more than anyone on this planet. He’s the best.” #mufc [BT]

Moments like these make you wonder why De Gea is not the highest paid player at the club by some distance. How many times, after all, have we seen the Spaniard pull off a save like this, ensuring three points doesn’t become just one – ensuring momentum doesn’t die.
Those frenzied last few moments at Vicarage Road were an example of the fine margins at this level, and indeed what world class – rather than very good – really looks like. World class keepers make that sort of save as if it were nothing. De Gea’s expression after the ball went behind for a corner was not too dissimilar from then a postman delivers the mail.
After all, this is just what De Gea does.
