Manchester United left-back Demetri Mitchell is set for a second stint in the Scottish Premiership after returning to Hearts until the end of the 2018-19 season.
Mitchell impressed in Scotland last term and earnt himself a place in the pre-season squad for the tour of the United States where he featured at left-back and on the left wing.
With Luke Shaw in the form of his career and Ashley Young high up in Jose Mourinho’s estimations though, game time for the first team this season was always unlikely.
However, the Man United manager obviously cares about the 21-year-old’s development and praised the top flight of Scottish football before sending Mitchell out on loan.
After completing his move to Hearts, Mitchell said: “I spoke to the manager (Mourinho) and he said going back on loan to Hearts is not a bad thing to get more experience. He said it’s a good league and it’s the top division in the country, so why not?”
With Young nearing the final years of his career, Mitchell seems like the perfect candidate to act as competition for Shaw in the coming years after rising through the ranks at United.
Shaw will hope to continue his impressive start to the campaign at Burnley on Sunday where Mourinho will be hoping to avoid three consecutive defeats.
