Former Manchester United man Dimitar Berbatov has revealed what it was like joining the club on deadline day, exclaiming he was on top of the world.
The former striker played his part during Sir Alex Ferguson’s tenure and was beloved by the fans for his style of play.
Berbatov was known for figuratively being artistic in the way he played his football and supporters cherished him more because he was so easy on the eye.
Unfortunately for the Bulgarian, United would eventually change their own style of play and he ended up not suiting their new system.
Although he was moved on he’s still adored by many Red Devils who recognise the talent he had and what he provided for the club at his peak.
According to the Mirror, Dimitar said: “From the moment my agent first told me that United wanted me, there was only one result.
“So we get to Manchester Airport, I’m walking and talking with my agent and then I look up and I see Sir Alex Ferguson is waiting for me.
“I thought that I was going to have a heart attack. What. The. F***. Now, that was such a crazy day, joining United. So, so crazy.
“I was on top of the world.”
Manchester United were attempting to play a quicker brand of football, trying to evolve with the modern game that ended up happening at Berbatov’s expense.
Unfortunately for him, he tended to slow things down and he desperately loved being a part of the build up play.
Most of his fantastic moments for the club actually involved his vision, touch and passing but it was the type of role that was no longer needed.
