Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic is not interested in a move to Manchester United despite the club making a €60m bid, according to Spanish media outlet Marca.
The Croat, following a frustrating couple of seasons under Zinedine Zidane, has made it clear this summer that he wants to leave the club in order to receive more game time elsewhere.
One of his potential suitors have been Man United, with Mourinho first expressing interest in the midfielder last summer.
But according to Marca’s Juan Ignacio García-Ochoa, United launched a bid worth €60m earlier this summer but Kovacic is not interested due to Jose Mourinho’s stylistic approach, which he believes would hamper his development.
Kovacic is not the only one. Jorginho, now at Chelsea, hinted that he wouldn’t consider joining a team which plays the Mourinho way earlier this year. There are, I’m sure, plenty of players who have turned down Mourinho for a similar reason.
Then again, this entire rumour feels decidedly spurious at a time when emphasis is obviously on securing a central defender, with the right wing position the next area of concern.
Following Marouane Fellaini‘s contract renewal and Fred’s arrival, there simply isn’t any room for another central midfielder at this moment in time.
