Pundit Danny Murphy believes Manchester United fans are envious of Liverpool due to the style of football they play in.
Jose Mourinho is known for being a defensive coach often playing on the counter-attack while Jurgen Klopp prefers a more intense approach.
The Reds have invested heavily since the German arrived but it’s his attacking, pressing tactics that have won him over.
United supporters meanwhile still have mixed feelings over Mourinho as he enters his third season in charge of the club.
Having won two trophies and finishing in second place so far, fans haven’t yet warmed up to playing on the back foot.
According to Manchester Evening News, Danny said: “I think a lot of Manchester United fans will look at the way Klopp has Liverpool playing with such attacking intent and they will be envious.
“Liverpool are always on the front foot, with fast movement and excellent speed of passing. More crucially, Liverpool are never in fear of the opposition and they can’t be accused of giving their opponent too much respect.
“I think Manchester United fans will look at that and wish it was what they were watching at Old Trafford. The body language of Manchester United players is reflective of Mourinho’s mood and there does seem to be a discontent within the group.
“The players are lacking energy and confidence and they’re showing their frustration on the pitch. You compare that to Klopp’s enthusiasm, positivity and passion and the contrast is unbelievable.
“However, it’s important to remember that Mourinho has won more trophies at Manchester United than Klopp has at Liverpool. Mourinho has been much more successful than Klopp over the years so fans shouldn’t get carried away thinking the grass is always greener.”
It’s good that Murphy has given a complete picture of things by pointing to the overall trophy count between the two managers.
Jose’s style may not be the best but his methods get him results whether one cares to admit so or not.
Klopp’s tactics are definitely easy on the eye but if it’s all style and no substance then there’s hardly a point.
The ideal scenario is to have both and the Red Devils fan base have long missed the days of when Sir Alex Ferguson stroke the perfect balance between the two.
