Jose Mourinho has confirmed new signing Diogo Dalot will be ready to make his Manchester United debut after the international break.
The Portuguese made Dalot, who only has eight senior appearances at Porto, his first signing of the summer for a fee of around £19m.
He picked up meniscus injury in May, however, which required an operation and has precluded him from receiving any minutes on the pitch, although he has started training with the first team.
Speaking ahead of Man United’s meeting with Burnley this weekend, Mourinho confirmed Dalot would play for the Under 23s against Stoke City tonight ahead of returning to full match condition after the international break.
“Jones is injured, as you can imagine,” he said.
“Dalot and Romero will play tonight at Old Trafford in an Under-23s match, which is a first match for them after knee surgeries and they need that a little bit but it’s good news for them because after that it’s the international break and after that they’ll be in a real condition to play.
“Marcos Rojo started training with the team a couple of days ago. He’s not ready for this match tonight but he is training with the team.”
Supporters have waited for some time to see what this youngster is about. It is not usual for Mourinho to move for a teenager with only eight senior appearances – especially one as attack-minded as Dalot.
The 55-year-old must have seen something special in him. There is clearly an aspect to his game he really admires. And he will be expected to hit the ground running at a time when United desperately need players to stand up on the pitch.
