Manchester United supporters have paid for a banner protesting against Ed Woodward and the Glazer family to be flown over Turf Moor ahead of the club’s clash with Burnley next week.
Supporters are furious at the club for seemingly focusing more on maintaining commercial success than improving the team in the transfer window this summer, during which they only made one major signing in the form of Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk.
A banner protesting against the faltering leadership of David Moyes was flown over Old Trafford in April 2014 – a couple of weeks before the Scot was eventually dismissed.
According to the Telegraph‘s James Ducker, a banner reading “Ed Out – LUHG” (Love United, Hate Glazer) will be flown over Turf Moor prior to Man United’s meeting with Burnley on September 2.
There is more than enough reason to protest against this board, who no longer need the club to be capable of challenging for the title to enjoy commercial and financial success. That much was made clear by the club’s share price on the stock exchange reaching an all-time high yesterday.
But to do it like this will not achieve much aside from adding to the sense of chaos and disorder currently pervading the club. United fans cannot present themselves to the world like this. They are at risk of becoming just another club which associates itself with perpetual turnover and strife. Another banner would only attest to that notion.
