Manchester United star Phil Jones has reacted to the pre-season loss against Bayern Munich but decided to look on the brighter side of things.
The Englishman wasn’t a part of the starting XI against the German champions after his exploits during the summer at the World Cup.
Jones is expected to take on a squad role this season with Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof hopefully going to be paired together.
With rumours of United investing in a top quality centre-back like Toby Alderweireld, it would potentially knock the former Blackburn Rovers man further down the pecking order.
Nonetheless Phil is excited for the upcoming campaign which will be Jose Mourinho’s third and arguably the most crucial one.
Jones: “Really looking forward to it (the season). We’ve bought in a couple new faces, maybe one or two more.” #mufc [MUTV]

Jones: “I thought we played well in patches, but we’re disappointed with the defeat. Hopefully we can have a good season.” #mufc [MUTV]

Fans will certainly be hoping just like Jones that a few more players will come in before the Thursday transfer window deadline.
Perhaps pre-season and specifically the match against Bayern Munich would’ve showed supporters the need for a back-up target man striker to Romelu Lukaku.
Although Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez have played through the middle in pre-season, none have carried out the job as well as the Belgian.
Either way there’s plenty for Mourinho to think about and the loss to Bayern would’ve given him even more headaches than he’s currently enduring.
