Manchester United are reportedly growing in confidence that they can secure a deal for Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Toby Alderweireld this summer.
It has been previously claimed that Man United have been pursuing the 29-year-old since May, but Tottenham’s hefty valuation has been a major stumbling block in negotiations.
Spurs have been said to want £65m for Alderweireld and United have only been willing to pay £55m, however, there seems to have been a breakthrough in transfer talks.
United journalist Sam Pilger tweeted today that the club are ‘increasingly confident’ of signing Alderweireld before next week’s deadline and a deal is most likely to be completed next week.
This could be due to Spurs’ willingness to let the Belgium international go ahead of the 2018-19 season, along with Danny Rose and Moussa Dembele.
Leicester City’s Harry Maguire and Barcelona’s Yerry Mina have both also been touted as United’s first-choice options after their World Cup exploits, but it would make the most sense if Alderweireld was to arrive.
Eric Bailly is, probably, the best centre-half at the club and he’s been craving an experienced partner since he joined in 2016 – Alderweireld can be that partner.
It’s looking like Marcos Rojo will be sold to Everton to accommodate the Spurs man’s arrival which can only be seen as an upgrade.
