Leicester City star Harry Maguire has broken his silence over the failed transfer to Manchester United, insisting he respected the owners’ decision to not sell him.
The Englishman was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford as Jose Mourinho searched for a new centre-back.
Toby Alderweireld was his first choice but when it became clear that transfer wouldn’t happen, he moved on to Maguire.
United were said to have enquired over a potential move but were told he was not for sale and not in the sense of saying that for negotiation tactics.
The Leicester man ended up staying right where he was and is set to play a key role in their ambitions this season.
According to Metro, Harry said on Match of the Day: “There was obviously a little bit of interest, you’ve probably all seen.
“The owners spoke with me and they reiterated that I wasn’t for sale at any price. So I respected their decision, they’re the ones that gave me the chance to come to Leicester and play for such a great club.
“So I respect that decision, and I just got my head down and got ready to play the season for Leicester.”
It was good for all three parties the owners were quick in making their intentions known clearly with no hesitation.
It allowed everyone to move on without much fuss being made over what could or could not happen in the end.
Perhaps further down the line if the Red Devils are still interested and the Foxes are open to selling a move could happen.
For the time being though, Jose will have to rely on his current crop of centre-backs.
