It has seemed certain that Paul Pogba will stay at Manchester United all summer but as tomorrow’s transfer deadline approaches, speculation has been growing regarding his future.
Pogba has struggled to consistently impress at Man United since returning from a four-year stint at Juventus in 2016 and has been regularly criticised over his two years back in England.
His relationship with manager Jose Mourinho was also strained at parts last season, and now reports have emerged that he could be playing his football elsewhere in the 2018-19 campaign.
The Daily Mail claim that the 25-year-old has agreed terms over a five-year deal at Barcelona worth £89.5m and has told teammates and United CEO Ed Woodward that he wants to depart Old Trafford.
It is understood that United consider Pogba to be unsellable because he is the ‘face of the brand’ and carries great marketing power, but that doesn’t mean anything in terms of the player’s relationship with Mourinho.
It may be becoming a real possibility that this could be Pogba’s last season at the club, with Barcelona and Juventus thought to be his largest suitors, but it’s unlikely he’ll move on deadline day.
After a great World Cup campaign with eventual winners France this summer, he’ll be hoping to enjoy his finest year yet in a United shirt and should return to action before the end of August.
