New signing Fred has encouraged Manchester United supporters to keep their heads high despite a horrendous 3-2 defeat at the hands of Brighton and Hove Albion over the weekend.
The midfielder, signed for £52.7m back in June, made a promising debut during the 2-1 win over Leicester City on the opening day of the Premier League season.
But he was largely off the pace against Brighton, overwhelmed by the home side’s physicality and unable to build momentum from deep as Jose Mourinho’s men failed to get going.
He has taken to social media, a brave thing to do at the moment, and expressed positive spirits ahead of the club’s return to training this Wednesday.

There has already been enough to Fred’s performances – enough technical ability, enough agility and understanding and timing – to see that Man United will be a better team with him in the starting XI.
But when the problem within the side is endemic, like at Brighton, what can he do? Fred shrunk like the rest of the United team in the second half, making simple passes and not carrying the ball, and you sensed at times the harshness of the Premier League was getting to him.
That is not a problem exclusive to Fred. Far from it. Having the technical aptitude for this level is not enough; he will need to show some cojones as well.
