Eden Hazard’s father has revealed that his son is unlikely to move to Real Madrid because of the departure of Zinedine Zidane from the European Champions, according to a report on Belgian news outlet Nieuwsblad.
The Chelsea forward was heavily linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu throughout the summer and it seems like he won’t be leaving the Premier League club before the 31st August transfer deadline for Spanish clubs.
The playmaker was given his first league start under new manager Maurizio Sarri on Sunday at St James’ Park and he repaid his manager’s faith in him by scoring a penalty as the Blues picked up a 2-1 win.
Hazard was instrumental as a substitute in Chelsea’s previous league fixtures against Arsenal and Huddersfield and he is now looking likely to sign a new deal at the club.
Thierry Hazard, Eden’s father, said:
It could have been a different story if Zidane had continued as Real Madrid coach. But he had his reasons to leave.
I can’t say what happened. Eden has another year on his contract next summer, and it’s possible that he’ll still end up at Real.
The 27-year-old publicly claimed that he was looking for a new challenge after the World Cup and left the final decision in Chelsea’s hands.
Hazard is a key part of Sarri’s plans and could be the player to push Chelsea towards a title challenge this year.
