Allardyce reveals why Pogba can't be considered a leader

Former England manager Sam Allardyce has revealed why Manchester United star Paul Pogba can’t be considered a leader, claiming people haven’t seen enough from him.

The Frenchman captained his side for their first two fixtures but had to pass the armband back to Antonio Valencia for the Tottenham clash.

The Ecuadorian is the club’s official captain but fans were excited to see Pogba lead following his excellent performances during the World Cup.

Unfortunately they were let down by the midfielder who disappeared, particularly in the clashes vs Brighton and Tottenham.

It’s too early to tell how Paul will play this season but it’s safe to say Allardyce isn’t impressed so far.

According to Manchester Evening News, Sam said: “United fans have been waiting for a consistent level of performances from Paul Pogba for so long now.

“Is it ever going to materialise at 25 now? He is at his peak. You have to hold your hands up and say you have not quite got what you expected on a consistent basis.

“When he plays well, he plays exceptionally well. His goals against Manchester City last season and his performance when he got moved just behind the front man was terrific, but we just haven’t seen enough.

“Everybody said he had a brilliant World Cup for France and I never saw that either. I must have to go to the optician. When you are the leading man, you have to be leading every week.

“Your performances cannot dip on a week in, week out basis. You stay consistent and you get the results.

“You become spasmodic in your performance levels, you are not doing what you are paid for in the end and that is perform consistently at a very, very high level, which every player at Manchester United has to do week in and week out.”

Pogba’s inconsistencies last season saw him come under huge amounts of criticism but after winning the World Cup with France, many believed that chapter was over with.

However, he’s returned to United showing none of the leadership skills or even ability as he did over the summer with his nation.

Jose Mourinho has tried everything to accommodate Paul, even switching to a 4-3-3 formation and building the team around him.

The excuses are running out fast and soon the former Juventus man will have nowhere to hide.
