Nemanja Matic and David de Gea will join Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the United States next week, according to reports.
The Serbian midfielder played all three group matches at the World Cup but was eliminated from the tournament exactly three weeks ago – the compulsory period of rest time for any player.
De Gea, who endured a tumultuous time between the sticks in Russia, was eliminated by the hosts on penalties three days later.
And according to M.E.N‘s Samuel Luckhurst, the pair, who played more minutes than any other member of the squad last season, will join up with the club’s pre-season tour in the next few days.
Both are expected to be available for Man United’s opening International Champions Cup game against AC Milan in Nevada on July 25. In the meantime, a United side littered with youngsters will have the chance to impress Jose Mourinho in clashes with Club America and San Jose Earthquakes.
Mourinho wanted Matic to have a holiday and his group stage exit, although frustrating for Serbians, will be a good thing for United going into next season. The boss will want to ease him back in.
De Gea, meanwhile, returns to a happier environment than that of the Spain camp in Russia. Supporters will be keen to see him back to his best in a United shirt.
