Ander Herrera has come out in support of teammate and fellow countryman David de Gea following Spain’s exit from the World Cup at the hands of Russia.
The Spaniard, who looked shaky in all three group games, was unable to save any of Russia’s four penalties in Moscow after La Roja failed to find a winner despite making over 1000 passes.
He will now go off on holiday before returning in time for the start of Manchester United’s pre-season on July 15.
And Herrera, responding to De Gea’s brusque message on social media, told him to hurry back to Manchester – a place where he is loved.
Herrera on De Gea’s Instagram post: “Come quickly to Manchester United. We have big things to achieve ahead.”

David Beckham notes in the film ‘Class of 92’ how he returned to Carrington following the 1998 World Cup, during which he was sent off for kicking Diego Simeone and consequently scapegoated, and was made to feel at home under Sir Alex Ferguson.
The boss wouldn’t discuss the matter in press conferences; his emphasis, as always, was that Beckham was a Man United player and that was all that mattered to him. He was safe there, protected and loved and respected. For a young man facing nationwide derision, it was exactly what he needed. A year later, he had won the treble. Four years later, he redeemed himself in the World Cup in Japan and South Korea.
Needless to say, De Gea needs to feel the same love from Mourinho and his teammates once he gets back in the United kit.
