Pereira explains his new positional change at Man United

Manchester United star Andreas Pereira has revealed just why he’s changed positions since rejoining, explaining that he had told Jose Mourinho he’ll play anywhere.

The Belgian returned from his loan spell at Valencia where he received positive reports for his good performances when he was fit.

United have only played one pre-season friendly but in last season’s tour, Pereira also played in the defensive midfield position that so baffled fans.

There’s no doubt his versatility helps him and it’s an asset Mourinho will absolutely love since he’s capable of playing anywhere in midfield as well as the flanks too.

In the first friendly, the youngster featured as a defensive midfielder to good effect but some supporters wished to see him pushed further forward.

According to Manchester Evening News, Andreas said: “The manager asked me what position I will play and I said I will play any position he would like. Now I am in this position as a number six.

“I will try to do my best and of course everyone is helping me a lot, including the manager, by telling me what to do. Carrick is also helping me in every training session and it is very important.

“It is not only them, but all of the other coaches as well. They’re helping me a lot and I am learning new things every day.

“Michael was one of the best [central midfielders] in the world and one of the best that Manchester United ever had.

“He gives me tips, he tells me in training what to do and it is very easy when he tells you. You pick it up straight away and it is very easy to learn from him.”

Pereira’s playmaking ability was precisely why Jose had him playing in such a deep position in order to help the team move the ball forward better.

Unfortunately Scott McTominay and Ander Herrera aren’t the most attacking of midfielders and so their impact was limited when moving forward.

Perhaps it would’ve made more sense to allow Andreas to affect the match in the opposition’s half instead and have the Spaniard hold the midfield as he did so previously in Mourinho’s first season in charge.
