Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho was not happy with Antonio Valencia for not reporting to pre-season duty in good condition, bizarrely attacking his captain for the season..
The Portuguese manager was clearly not happy with a number of things following the club’s 4-1 defeat to Liverpool in the United States of America.
Valencia didn’t feature in the match due to picking up an injury in the match against AC Milan and it appears he’ll be out for a while because of it.
The injury will leave Mourinho without any real right-back options for the start of the Premier League season as new signing Diogo Dalot is still recovering from his own fitness issues.
Matteo Darmian has been filling in so far but it’s expected he will depart before the transfer window shuts as he no longer wants to remain at Old Trafford.
According to Manchester Evening News, Jose said: “Antonio came from holiday, I think too much holiday for him, his condition was not good when he was back.”
It could be that the Ecuadorian’s poor condition lead to him picking up a torn calf against Milan so it’s understandable why the former Real Madrid boss is upset.
Players aren’t expected to return to pre-season in tip top shape but are expected to keep some form of professionalism while away on their respective holidays.
