Manchester United remain keen on signing Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale this summer despite Julen Lopetegui’s arrival as manager, according to reports.
Bale’s future was in complete limbo at the end of the 2017-18 season after a frustrating campaign in which he was regularly placed on the substitutes bench by Zinedine Zidane, including in the Champions League Final.
The 29-year-old came on for the last half-hour and netted twice, one of which was one of the greatest goals in the competitions history, to help Real beat Liverpool 3-1 and lift a third consecutive Champions League trophy.
The Independent claims that Bale is still a player Man United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is craving to sign and the star’s Adidas sponsorship is a big reason for that desire to bring him to Old Trafford.
It’s no secret that Bale is considering his future in Spain but now Lopetegui has taking charge at the Santiago Bernabeu, and is said to see the Welshman as a key part of his plans next term, it’s unlikely a move will materialise.
His game time will ultimately be the deciding factor in whether he stays at Real to grab the limelight after Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure to Juventus or returns to the Premier League where his glittering career began.
