Manchester United star Jesse Lingard has praised England manager Gareth Southgate’s tactics and explained just how and why it all feels like a ‘revolution’.
The academy product has thrust himself into the limelight recently after scoring a brilliant goal in the routing of Panama in the World Cup.
Southgate has taken a liking to the United man and has been repaid for his faith with fine performances that made fans forget about Tottenham’s Dele Alli.
Lingard’s rise in importance for club and country this season has been nothing short of sensational and there’s hopes that he can continue being central to both their plans.
England next face Colombia in the Round of 16 stage and supporters will be encouraging their team onwards into the Quarter-finals or perhaps even further.
According to JOE, Jesse said: “It feels like a new revolution. The manager has come in with great ideas, great ideas in the way he wants us to play. The formation suits us perfectly.
“As a group of lads, it is a young squad but we still have those experienced players in there and the team spirit is amazing at the moment. We are excited and enjoying the World Cup.”
Jesse’s versatility has definitely proven useful not only for his club and country but also for himself as it allows him to be selected more often than he would’ve been had he been a one position man.
Capable of playing on either flank, behind the striker and even in midfield means that both Gareth and Jose Mourinho can continue to alternate their plans knowing full well that he’ll slot in easily to the side.
