Jose Mourinho explains why heavy Liverpool defeat doesn't matter

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has played down the heavy loss against Liverpool, claiming it’s an insignificant result but that it has helped him know who’s ready and who’s not.

The two rivals clashed in a pre-season friendly in the United States of America but it was Jurgen Klopp’s men who ran out 4-1 winners.

Rather ironically United dealt with the game fairly well when the Reds were playing their stars but it was when they brought on their youngsters is when the match flipped

It was tied 1-1 at the break but things soon turned in Klopp’s favour with Mourinho being unable to do anything but watch as his players were battered.

Some fans have been growing increasingly concerned over what’s happened this tour and this result has been the last straw with them.

According to Manchester Evening News, Jose said: “This is not a step for anything, the majority of the payers which played are not going to play some of them are not even going to belong to the squad.

“Accumulation of matches that is killing progressively my brave boys. The ones which are always there and ready to put everything for the club, it is not a step for anything.

“Maybe it is a step for me to know the players more than anything. I know the one who are ready for anything, and I know the ones who are not ready.”

Mourinho discussing the accumulation of matches having played just the fourth match of pre-season seems a little bizarre, particularly due to his refusal to rotate.

Manchester United have brought a tonne of youngsters along with them this summer but have only used them sparingly when the match is already winding down.

Such a policy has seen the like of Antonio Valencia, Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly pick up injuries at a time the squad really can’t afford one.
