Chelsea could turn their attention towards Mattia Caldara if they are unable to agree a fee for Daniele Rugani.
According to Corriere della Sera, as cited on Calciomercato, Chelsea are keeping tabs on the player, who is also attracting interest from Borussia Dortmund.
Chelsea are said to be aware that they could secure a deal for Caldara for potentially as much as €10 million less than Rugani.

Both Juventus and Chelsea have been in discussions for some time now as they look to agree a fee for the Italian defender.
Chelsea officials are in Italy this week as they look to step up their pursuit of the player who worked with Maurizio Sarri at Empoli.
Despite only recently returning to the club from a loan spell at Atalanta, Caldara is already being caught up in the transfer-merry-go-round that could see Gonzalo Higuain leave the club and Leonardo Bonucci return from Juventus.
