Real Madrid look set to swoop for Chelsea boss Antonio Conte after Zinedine Zidane confirmed his departure from the La Liga giants last week, the Daily Mail reports.
Real had been targeting Juventus’ Massimiliano Allegri as Zidane’s but his reluctance to take the job in Spain has left the club now looking for other options.
With Chelsea still looking set to sack Conte, he could be one of the only proven managers available this summer.
The Madrid club had also been looking at Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino and Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp but neither look willing to leave their current clubs.
Zidane quit the Bernabeu last Thursday after falling out with Real’s hierarchy over plans for next season.
It’s believed that Real’s board were unwilling to the Frenchman full power in the transfer window, something too that Conte has complained of at Chelsea.
It is also believed that Zidane had wanted to begin his side’s pre-season with two weeks training in Madrid, but the club insisted that their pre-season began on their scheduled North American visit.
