Manchester United legend Bryan Robson has praised Marcus Rashford for his performance for England in their opening World Cup fixture vs Tunisia.
The Three Lions narrowly beat their opponents 2-1 to begin their campaign in style and although the academy product didn’t get on the scoresheet, he did bring the game to life.
Rashford isn’t expected to lead his nation to glory by scoring double digits or anything, instead his role is more along the lines of inspiring his side whenever they look short of ideas.
Robson praised the youngster for doing just that against the African country and there’s hopes it will be enough to convince Gareth Southgate to start him against their next opponents.
The current debate going around is whether Marcus or Raheem Sterling should get the nod in the striker position that’s alongside Tottenham star Harry Kane.
According to the club’s official website, Bryan said: “When Marcus Rashford came on, he sparked the game, put Tunisia on the back foot and got into a couple of great situations where he could have created a goal. He looked really sharp and bright about his game.”
Rashford certainly suits the role of a natural striker more so than Sterling does of course but it seems as though Southgate prefers him coming off the bench.
The Manchester City man has had the better season for his club but unfortunately what’s being asked of him isn’t what works best for him with the United academy player better in that position.
