Gianfranco Zola has played down rumours linking him to a coaching role at Chelsea and reveals that no decisions have been made yet, according to a report on Sky Sports.
The Chelsea legend has been widely tipped to be part of the coaching staff when Maurizio Sarri is appointed as the new manager, with the Italian boss seemingly on the verge of taking charge at Stamford Bridge.
The Italian made over 200 appearances for the Blues and knows exactly what it means to be part of the club, which could be one of the reasons they want him to be part of the coaching team.
Zola confirmed that he has undergone talks with the club but there has not been any agreement yet.
When speaking about the matter, Zola said:
There is a lot of rumours about me at the moment and nothing has happened. And we’ll see what happens in the future.
I don’t know. Really, I don’t know. But honestly, at the moment it is only talking. Nothing is decided.
The former Watford and West Ham manager has not had the best of times when being appointed as the man in charge, which is why Chelsea are keen to give him an assistant role at the club.
Sarri’s agent is reportedly in London to finalise his deal to become the new Chelsea manager.
