Former England manager Sam Allardyce believes experience has helped Jesse Lingard show more consistency and improvement which in turn has helped him see off the challenges of Alexis Sanchez and Anthony Martial.
The academy product has had a breakthrough season for club and country, not in terms of making his debut of course but rather more so that he’s been regular in both starting XI’s.
Lingard’s versatility certainly helps him be considered more often by his managers but it’s his consistency that’s kept him in the starting line-up.
Allardyce believes his consistency has come from his experiences on the field which has made him grow in talent with the 25 year old looking to cement his place.
There’s no doubt that Jesse’s value has increased as the season has gone on and there’s not a single United fan that hasn’t enjoyed watching his journey.
According to the Daily Star, Sam said to talkSPORT: “Experience for Jesse Lingard has proven to help him be more consistent and more dynamic, not only in the Man United side.
“Look at the competition he’s had at Manchester United, look at the players they’ve bought. Sanchez recently, Martial, they’ve spent huge money and he’s overcome those challenges at Man United.
“He’s been more of a regular first-team player than certainly Martial and I think that has been good for England. He handles the big pressure, you play for Manchester United and that’s massive, massive pressure.
“Everybody knows the demands of Manchester United, Champions League and to win the league. I think that he’s come through that with great experience over the years and his talent is getting better and better.”
The battle for Lingard though is arguably not over for either club or country as other star’s have tended to be valued more highly by their respective managers.
Sanchez is expected to be back to his usual self next season which could see the attacking midfielder lose his spot while for England Dele Alli is the media’s choice for the future.
