Manchester United are in advanced talks with Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred and want to secure his signature before he travels to the World Cup in Russia, according to Sky Sports‘ Peter Gilmour.
Jose Mourinho has made replacing Michael Carrick a priority this summer and Man United have had a free run at Fred ever since Manchester City pulled out of the race to sign him in January.
It was reported yesterday that Fred was indeed edging closer to joining United and could complete a move to Old Trafford by early June.
And this has been corroborated by Sky Sports, with United apparently close to agreeing a deal with the Brazilian midfielder.
Have been looking into the #Fred reports. We understand #MUFC & Shakhtar are in advanced talks over a possible transfer. Deal close & United want him before the World Cup. More on @SkySportsNews

The transfer window has been open for less than a week and United have raced out of the blocks in their pursuit of Fred. You sense this has been a deal lined up for some time. Shakhtar’s CEO, Sergei Palkin, even claimed earlier in the season that Fred was bound for a move to Manchester.
He will conveniently be in the North-West next week for a friendly with Croatia at Anfield and United, clearly determined to get deals done before the World Cup and pre-season begins, will want to have the move wrapped up during that period.
