Jose Mourinho has claimed that he predicted his Manchester United players to crumble in the way they did against Brighton and Hove Albion.
Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku missed the game through injury while Ander Herrera, Antonio Valencia and Jesse Lingard were all rested.
And United were decidedly awful to watch, lacking the slightest measure of zip to their play or accuracy with their passing as they deservedly lost 1-0 to a spirited Brighton side.
Speaking after the game, Mourinho revealed how he warned his players of this exact scenario before and during the game.
Mourinho: “That’s not me, if my players want to be honest and fair, if you ask them they will tell you for how long I spoke, during the week, before the game, half time. I anticipated the scenario.” #mufc

When you manage to beat every member of the top six yet lose to every promoted side, along with bottom club West Bromwich Albion, there is something wrong psychologically in that team.
The problem isn’t the tactics. That Mourinho hasn’t played attractive football this season hasn’t stopped United from getting results against the top sides in this division.
The problem, it seems, is that United appear to be a very situational team. This was a game that, in the grand scheme of things, wasn’t particularly important. Second place is all but guaranteed anyway. And United played in a way which mirrored that. Nobody looked particularly interested.
Every top team brings the same tempo and attitude to their play every week, regardless of context. United are miles away from that at this moment in time.
