Duncan Castles has claimed that Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind are on their way out of Manchester United as he reveals Jose Mourinho’s transfer plans.
The pair have long appeared to be on the Portuguese manager’s bad side so it’s no real surprise to hear that they’re set to leave.
Darmian has been edging towards a departure to Juventus for weeks now and although Blind has less activity going on he has admitted to considering his future.
The Dutchman has been linked with a move back to Ajax and could potentially reestablish himself as a talented player.
Mourinho’s desire to revamp his defence this summer is no secret and it’s certainly a start to move on the pair.
According to the Daily Star, Duncan said on the Transfer Window podcast: “Obviously [Mourinho wants to] upgrade the full-backs to give them a better, more-reliable defence, and better attack from the wing position.
“[Antonio] Valencia will remain as first-choice right-back but he wants a backup who can put pressure on him.
“And he wants a top quality leader, experienced centre-back in there. [Danny] Blind and [Matteo] Darmian for sure are on their way out.”
Antonio Valencia‘s need for an heir has been apparent all season long as he’s had no real challenger for his position for some time now.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah is said to be the one to challenge the Ecuadorian after impressing on loan with Crystal Palace.
A top quality centre-back is definitely in demand as well but there’s hopes that Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof will soon be able to fulfil their destiny of partnering up in defence to establish themselves as regular first team players.
