Duncan Castles has claimed that while Manchester United are not actively selling Juan Mata, they will consider doing so should a good offer come in for him.
The Spaniard initially arrived at the club because Jose Mourinho sold him during the pair’s time together at Chelsea.
United’s interest in the Portuguese manager sparked rumours that Mata would be sold the moment he steps into his office.
However, that hasn’t turned out to be the case with the versatile attacker surviving both of Mourinho’s seasons so far.
Castles believes Juan is likely to stay but that should there be any interested parties, the Red Devils are unlikely to turn down a good bid.
According to the Daily Star, Duncan said on the Transfer Window podcast: “I think Juan Mata will stay.
“I think with him if they were to get a good offer for a club which was appealing for him they would definitely listen to that and be prepared to relieve themselves of the wages and use the money elsewhere on the team.
“Mata does give Mourinho a different type of attacking style though which has been useful.”
Juan Mata is certainly one of Manchester United’s more talented set of players but there’s an argument to be made of whether he fits Jose’s tactics or not.
The former Real Madrid boss has a preference for pacy, direct attackers while the former Valencia man is known for his playmaking ability instead.
Perhaps it’s because Mata has proven himself to be a useful alternative for when things aren’t going right on the pitch that Jose Mourinho has decided to hold onto him for so long.
