Manchester United and Jose Mourinho are reportedly interested in signing Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The German midfielder is considered to be a key cog in the Spanish club’s side but the Portuguese manager is keen on raiding his former side.
Mourinho isn’t shy of going back to his old clubs to sign their players as he proved during last summer with the Nemanja Matic transfer.
Kroos has won numerous trophies during his time at Madrid but could be tempted to be a part of the former Chelsea manager’s plans.
United haven’t been afraid of breaking the bank for quality players and have the money to offer high salaries if they wish to.
According to the Daily Star, Don Balon report that Jose wants Toni to partner Paul Pogba as he looks to overhaul his current squad but Real have no intentions of letting their player go.
The former Bayern man’s transfer to Old Trafford seems unlikely but there are some factors that could potentially come into play.
For example, should Zinedine Zidane be sacked from his job then it might see a host of stars leave the club with Toni Kroos an option too.
However, the transfer itself doesn’t make sense for numerous reasons as well such as what the move would mean to Matic.
The Serbian was brought in to feature alongside Pogba in a 4-2-3-1 formation meaning there’s no room for Kroos in a two man midfield.
With Jose Mourinho reportedly given a £200m transfer budget, it’s unlikely he’ll spent the majority on it on one player when he doesn’t necessarily need a midfielder.
