Luis Enrique is looking to secure a job that “excites” him this summer, as reports continue to link him with a move to Chelsea.
The Spaniard spent three years in charge of Barcelona before departing his post at the club last summer. However, it seems he is now ready to tackle his next managerial task, with Chelsea rumoured to be keen.
As quoted by ESPN, Enrique broke his silence over his plans for the future and outlined the type of job he’d next like to take on.
Coaching the national team would be great. But we’ve got Lopetegui right now, who is doing a brilliant job. There has been interest from clubs, but it has to be something that really excites me. There’s no other club where I’ll be able to work with better players than at Barca.
Enrique has often been touted as Chelsea’s number one candidate to take the reins as first-team manager ahead of the 2018/19 campaign. The Blues are seemingly intent on sacking Antonio Conte in the summer after what has been a hugely underwhelming campaign.
Chelsea are unlikely to secure Champions League football next season, with the team now eight points adrift of Tottenham Hotspur in fourth place. They could yet, however, win the FA Cup as they prepare to face Southampton in the semi-finals of the competition.
A number of managers have been linked with moves to Chelsea, such as Juventus’ Max Allegri and Thomas Tuchel, who was sacked by Borussia Dortmund midway through last season.
