Pundit claims Mourinho criticised Man Utd players to be backed by the board

Robbie Fowler has decided to explain Jose Mourinho’s recent outbursts in a rather bizarre fashion, claiming he only did it to get backing in the transfer market from the Manchester United board.

The Portuguese manager has previously claimed that he needs more support from the club’s hierarchy and reportedly refused to sign a contract extension until he was promised it.

The board themselves have released multiple statements that reiterate their backing of Mourinho, both as a manger and for what he does in the transfer market.

United’s players will certainly be aware that player power will not bend the hierarchy against him in a similar way that happened during his time at Chelsea.

Fowler believes the former Real Madrid’s manager’s criticism could’ve been to highlight the need for the board to back him in the upcoming summer transfer window.

According to the Express, Robbie wrote in the Sunday Mirror: “One thought, though. Maybe it [criticism] wasn’t aimed at the players at all. The only two players he singled out for praise, Matic and Lukaku, were the two he insisted United bought.

“So I suspect he’s demanding the Old Trafford board back him in the transfer market but it’s a hell of a risky game, because he may not be around long enough to prove it if those players he’s hacked off truly turn against him.”

The pundit’s words are a rather unusual way of explaining why Jose was furious with his players following their win over Brighton.

Perhaps a more sensible suggestion is to study what the Red Devils’ boss did following a couple of difficult week’s in charge of the club.

Jose Mourinho deflected superbly following the club’s shock loss to Sevilla in the Champions League with most parts of the media choosing to focus on his press conference than the actually gutless display from the players.

However, he was then repaid by the players with a disgusting display vs Brighton despite managing to beat their opponents.

Supporters were also terribly disappointed and so Mourinho decided to be ruthless this time, calling them all out for their dire performance.
