Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho was in full praise for last night’s opponents Crystal Palace and their manager Roy Hodgson after the two clubs clashed in dramatic fashion.
Palace came out of the blocks firing, scoring early in either half as United suddenly found themselves 2-0 down and in desperate need of a win.
Chris Smalling managed to grab a goal soon after to give his teammates some inspiration as they hunted down all three points.
Romelu Lukaku was next to find the back of the net, scoring a crucial equaliser to set up the final moments of the game for more drama.
Nemanja Matic scored the winner in injury time, a beautiful long range shot that helped the Red Devils secure a comeback win and Mourinho praised his opponents for making things difficult for his players.
According to Teamtalk, Jose said: “Palace did very, very well. Roy was aggressive. Roy was clever. He went direct and tried to bring the emotion to the game to his team, which he did, and they were always dangerous.
“Even in the moment when it looks like everything was in our control, David had to make a phenomenal save from Benteke.
It’s very hard for them to lose and go home without a single point, because they gave absolutely everything.”
The win sets up Manchester United’s clash with Liverpool spectacularly well with Jose Mourinho’s men needing another win to secure second place.
A lose against their fierce rivals could see the club lose the position they’ve held onto for the majority of the season.
Anything less than second would now be considered a failure given how the Premier League campaign has panned out.
United started the season as good as Manchester City had but soon trailed off after experiencing some inconsistent form.
While they certainly haven’t been the best team in England, Mourinho’s players have been second for so long that it would be unfair for them to drop into third or even fourth.
