Manchester United star Jesse Lingard has claimed that his first senior goal for England is up there with his best moments in his career.
The academy product featured for his nation vs Holland in last night’s friendly fixture and managed to put in a match winning performance.
Lingard’s second half goal allowed the Three Lions to sneak past the Dutch with the scoreline not nearly reflecting their true dominance in the match.
The United attacker was given an opportunity to impress ahead of the upcoming World Cup in Russia and it’s fair to say he made an impact.
Gareth Southgate is a clear admirer of him but with other stars such as Dele Alli holding an arguably bigger reputation, he may not be a guaranteed starter.
According to the Daily Star, Jesse said: “It’s up there with my best moment. It’s always an honour, to score as well is a massive bonus. I took a bit of time, tried to concentrate on it and I tried to give the keeper the eyes.
“Of course I want to start (in Russia). When you work hard you get the rewards so from now I will carry on working hard and see where it gets me.”
Jesse Lingard‘s season with the Red Devils has also gone far better than expected as he finds himself with double digits for his goalscoring record.
The Englishman’s chances in the starting XI weren’t that high at the beginning of the campaign but after a real purple patch of form he’s gone from being a useful rotational option to a potential starter.
Lingard’s intelligent movement and rapid pace allows him to be a more unique type of attacking midfielder in comparisons to others around the world.
Number 10s often don’t have the same pace and are known more for their playmaking ability and vision than anything else.
However, Jesse offers the same playmaking and dribbling along with his intelligent runs into the box and now a goalscoring threat too.
