Jose Mourinho provides injury update on five Man United players

Jose Mourinho has confirmed Sergio Romero will miss the FA Cup semi-final with Tottenham Hotspur with a knee injury, noting that the Argentine would be out for “a few weeks”.

The 31-year-old suffered a nasty collision with Diego Costa during Argentina’s 6-1 hammering at the hands of Spain over the international break.

It was confirmed following the game that Romero hadn’t suffered any ligament or bone damage, but Mourinho, speaking at a press conference ahead of the Swansea City game, noted that he will not recover in time to face Spurs at Wembley.

“Romero is injured, and I think he will for a few weeks, I think in the end he was lucky because was a strong contusion and will take a little bit of time to recover,” he said.

The boss was able to reveal that Young had picked up a knee injury during England’s draw with Italy but noted it wasn’t too serious, adding that he would call on Luke Shaw – who he vehemently criticised two weeks ago – if needed. Daley Blind, on the other hand, has returned to training having been on the sidelines since January.

“Ashley Young had a problem in the last part of the game against Italy but we think there is a chance for him to recover and Daley Blind come back from his treatment in Holland, start training with us in the last few days and is the only one not available.

“If he’s available Luke Shaw is always an option, Ashley Young was available to play against Brighton so I started with Luke Shaw, so that’s not a problem.

Phil Jones is also back after another frustrating period on the sidelines, while Marcos Rojo, who played for Argentina during the week, is also back.

“Apart from Daley, after a couple of months out, we recovered all the other problems we had, including Phil Jones, Rojo played with Argentina so the picture improved a lot for us in that aspect.”
