Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has backed the club’s record signing, Alvaro Morata to reap the rewards of his hard work this season despite not finding life too easy since moving to London, according to Goal.
Morata has scored just one goal since Boxing Day after a tough recent run of form which also seen him spend a long time sidelined with injury woes.
After coming in for a huge fee from Real Madrid in the summer, the Spanish forward has scored just ten goals in the Premier League. This has contributed towards Chelsea being a long way off the pace in the Premier League.
He scored in his last game for the club in the FA Cup semi-final against Leicester City but was not called up to the Spanish national team for the recent international friendlies.
Conte has spoken about Morata ahead of his side’s visit from Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon:
This period for Morata was very important. I think that, in the last week and this week, he has worked very well. I think that he needed to work hard because, don’t forget, Alvaro was out for one and a half months with his back problem.
Now Alvaro is really fit, 100 per cent, and ready to have an important final of the season: for Chelsea and then, for him, to have the chance to go and play in the World Cup.
