Ruben Loftus-Cheek could be a surprise starter for England at this summer’s World Cup, providing he proves his fitness at Crystal Palace for the remainder of the season.
The Mirror reports that Gareth Southgate will take his time in making a decision on whether or not to include the player in his squad.
Loftus-Cheek is very highly rated by Southgate and was handed his England debut earlier this season.
Despite having just one appearance for the England senior side, the report claims the midfielder could start for the Three Lions in Russia.
Loftus-Cheek has impressed on loan at Crystal Palace this season but injuries have meant regular game time has been hard to come by.
The midfielder has featured just once for Palace since the turn of the year, coming off the bench in the final moments during their 2-0 win away to Huddersfield.
It has been well reported that several England players are struggling for both fitness and game time ahead of the World Cup, making Southgate’s squad selection even harder in the final stages of the season.
