Thibaut Courtois’ future at Chelsea remains uncertain despite a lucrative contract offer still sitting on the table from the Blues, and they’re drawing up contingency plans for if the Belgian decides to move on in the summer.
One of those contingency plans is Atletico Madrid stopper Jan Oblak, according to the Express, with the Slovenian himself in the midst of a contract dispute with his La Liga employers.
Oblak is contracted to Atletico until June 2020 but his contract contains a £88m release clause which the La Liga club are fearful will be activated in the summer transfer window.
Chelsea are among the clubs interested in Oblak but they face competition from Arsenal for his signature as the Gunners look for a long-term replacement for Petr Cech.
The Blues would still ideally like to re-sign Courtois to a new long-term deal, with an offer still on the table and has been for several months, but the Belgian is aware of wider interest in his services.
Set to become a free agent at the end of next season, a decision on Courtois’ future needs to be made in the near future so Chelsea can plan accordingly.
Both Real Madrid and PSG are said to be looking at Courtois in the summer.
