Petr Cech has spoken about his first penalty save at Arsenal which allowed him to secure his 200th Premier League clean sheet (via Arsenal.com).
It must have been a frustrating few weeks for Petr Cech personally.
It’s no secret that Arsenal have been in a run of woeful form of late but for the experienced goalkeeper, that string of results must have stung even more.
Cech has been stuck on 199 Premier League since the 1-0 victory over Newcastle United in the middle of December but on Sunday, he finally ended the streak.
“It’s been a while and I have to say that it’s never happened that I’ve had to wait 11 games for a clean sheet,” Cech said after the match.
“In the stretch it was quite frustrating at times.”
Sunday’s match also saw another landmark for Cech as he saved his first penalty in an Arsenal shirt.
“Well, I always say when you go through a difficult period, the last thing you change is your work, your attitude and your precision in the every day work that you do.
“So I kept working and I kept working. I know how I managed to get this far, so I carried on my work and I thought that one day it would turn back.
“Today it was an important save, so the question of is it a penalty here or there and will he save one? Well, today I did. So we can carry on.”
It was great to see Petr Cech save his first penalty in an Arsenal shirt on the same day that he notched up his 200th Premier League clean sheet. He’s been an excellent goalkeeper in the last few decades and deserves his place in Premier League history.
