Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was reportedly upset with Anthony Martial‘s performance vs Tottenham Hotspurs in the Premier League.
The Red Devils travelled to Wembley in the hopes of winning another three points to continue their impressive January run.
Mourinho’s men managed to win all of their matches of the month heading into the fixture but saw their form abruptly come to an end.
Spurs were more dynamic, alert and composed that United who were simply played off the pitch and Martial was one of the club’s poor performers.
The Portuguese manager must’ve been disappointed with most of his players that night but reports suggest he was particularly let down by the Frenchman.
According to the Express, Manchester Evening News report of Jose’s dismay with Anthony for his performance vs Tottenham Hotspurs and apparent lack of tackling.
Whilst the former AS Monaco man failed to perform on the night, some of the blame can be put on his manager instead after some unusual tactical tinkering.
Anthony Martial isn’t a traditional winger but features on the left flank often in order to still be able to cut onto his right foot and score.
Recent form vouched for his effectiveness from the position although he will certainly prefer to lead the line for Manchester United.
However, Jose Mourinho decided to push him out onto the right flank where he felt uncomfortable crossing and when cutting in was forced to shoot with his weaker foot.
The tweak was made to make room for Alexis Sanchez who would certainly have been more comfortable out on the right if need be than Martial was.
